Byciel Fionel Watsaam “BYCIEL” is a Surinamese born Songwriter, Singer and Musician. The Multi award winning artist started writing at a young age. At the age of thirteen he learned to play the guitar, but his passion was to be a songwriter and singer.
BYCIEL’S first studio recording was in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 2006, where he recorded with Enver Panka, a Surinamese Rapper.
In 2010 BYCIEL released his first EP of songs with different genres. His voice gives him the ability to move through different styles of music. Influenced by the music of his childhood, he focused more on “Reggae” and “Dancehall”.
BYCIEL’S first Surinamese Hit song was his Reggae song ‘Mi Boto” 2013. This was also the first time he sang in his native language called ‘Aucaans’. The song ‘Mi Boto’ instantly led to his first National Award for Best Inspirational Song of 2013. He became the Artist of the Year.
The success of 2013 was just the beginning, every other song he wrote became a radio hit. BYCIEL is known for the creativity of his music, but most of all his unique style and voice, which captures anyone’s attention.
In 2015 BYCIEL surprised many with his pop-rock song called ‘Mia Sabi’. Those who knew him as reggae artist, instantly saw another side of his creativity and passion for Music. ‘Mia Sabi’ changed the views of many and left a lot in awe of the sound he produced. This song was nominated by the Caribbean Marlyn Awards in 2016.
In 2016 BYCIEL launched his duet song with his wife called ‘A POKU’. It was the very first time in the history of Suriname where lyrics consisted of both the Aucaans and English language in Jazz Genre.
The song became a national hit sand landed as the #1 hit on every major local radio station in Suriname. “A POKU” was rewarded with the BEST COLLABERATION AWARD.
In 2017 BYCIEL released his album “Gadu Ana”. This album was nominated as Album of the Year at the SU-MUISIC Awards and title song “Gadu Ana” made it clear that BYCIEL is working towards an International and cross-cultural sound.
In 2017 BYCIEL wrote an album song for Jeangu Macrooy, a international artist in the Netherlands.
In 2018 BYCIEL conquers the hearts of Suriname with his composition ‘TAA FA’, sung by his wife and his friend Eugene Main. This is the song he submitted to the Surinamese songwriter’s competition. This is the highest and most prestigious musical festival of Suriname. He didn’t just win this edition, but he won the most historic 20th edition with the Golden Trophy.
In 2019 BYCIEL collaborated with international star Joss Stone. They collaborate on his song ‘A Poku’.
2020. BYCIEL wrote the song “Zij is degene”. This song became the song of the year onf the TOP40 hit charts in Suriname.
